Mac n cheese casserole with ground beef

Can this be slow cooked in a crock pot? Also can stuffed tomatoes or bell peppers be slow cooked? I made this this past weekend. I did not use the Chicken broth, as I have to watch my sodium. I added a little bit more cheese - very dry and bland. Very disappointed in this dish. Whichever reviewer said that this recipe is too dry is exactly right. Plus it need more seasoning. It was easy to make and came out as it should but it was dry and bland.

Steps to Make It

I would definitely add seasoning to the ground beef and maybe include layers of shredded cheese along with the pasta and beef layers if I ever were to try again. I made this last night and I was not happy with it. It was way to dry. This was a very easy and delicious dish.

When I folded the cheese into the milk mixture it just melted into big blobs and didn't mix in with the macaroni after adding it to fold in. Instead I added the macaroni into the milk mixture first and then layered into the pan, sprinkling the cheese on top of each macaroni layer. This way the cheese spread evenly and consistently instead of having giant blobs of cheese in some bites and no cheese in others. The cheese sauce was great.

MAC & CHEESE WITH BEEF

I did make some changes. I used ground chicken and sliced sun-dried tomatoes.

It was a big hit and I will definitely make it again. Instead of 3 cups of cheddar cheese, I use 2 cups of cheddar and 1 cup of Italian cheese blend. Then, in place of bread crumbs, I use French's Fried Onions on top. This is a great make ahead - refrigerate a day before baking or freeze for a couple of months tightly covered. You might want to thaw overnight in the fridge.

Hamburger Macaroni and Cheese

Baking will take an extra 15 minutes since it's starting cold. Very good! A hit! I added onions to my ground beef as I browned it and added garlic powder and dry mustard along with salt and pepper. I used crushed ritz crackers on top and that was very good!

I didn't have carton of chicken broth so made broth with bouillon cube. Made this tonight for dinner. Super good!
